Based on the TESOL Short-Term Certificate Standards, the TESOL Core Certificate Program (TCCP) is a 140-hour blended-learning certificate program providing a foundation in the theory and practice of English language teaching (ELT). Admission requirements

Qualification admission requirements

Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.

A Senior Certificate with exemption, as well as an appropriate accredited Bachelor's degree (360 or 480 credits) or equivalent National Diploma (360 or 480 credits) with English completed up to third year or Applied Language in English completed up to third year level with English 1. Linguistics or African Literature or an African language or Afrikaans also must have been completed up to second year level. In addition to above requirements, you also must have completed Computer Literacy skills up to first level. Applications and registrations for this qualification is online ONLY and no self-help or personal applications or registrations will be accepted. Students who do not meet all the requirements, should rather consider applying for a Bachelor of Education degree.

Application fee

Pay the application fee once you've received your student number:

• R115 for online applications
• R185 for hard copy applications (hard copy applications will only be considered in exceptional cases)

Please note that this application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa or cannot be offered a space due to limited spaces available.

Apply for admission

Applications for admission to Unisa's undergraduate qualifications (higher certificates, advanced certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas & degrees) will be open from 1 September to 30 November 2020.

Unisa may, however, open applications for qualifications where there is space available.
Please take note of the following:

• All applications for admission must be submitted online. No self-help stations will be available for applications at the regional offices.
• Admission to a qualification is not automatic. It will depend on whether you comply with the admission requirements and if space is available.

Additional support for this qualification via TVET colleges

Unisa has an agreement with various Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges to offer classes in a selected number of qualifications. These classes have proved to generally improve the throughput rate of students who enrol for them.

Take note of the following:

• Make sure that your TVET college of choice offers support in your qualification.
• Apply for admission during Unisa's application period via your TVET college or via Unisa.

For Tier 4 visa purposes, if you are a national of one of the following countries (or have a bachelor’s degree or higher from one of these countries) you will not be required to provide evidence of English language proficiency:

• You have studied in the UK before as a Tier 4 (Child) student
• You’re applying to come to the UK for a study abroad programme as part of a university degree course in the USA
